ChatGPT Images 2.5 Adds More Ways To Specify a Photo Edit
OpenAI released ChatGPT Images 2.5 on September 8, adding sketch-guided creation and comments placed on images. The company reports better preservation of reference subjects and more consistent repeated edits. A useful edit brief still separates the desired change from the face, object, text or composition that must remain unchanged.

Make the preservation list concrete
An instruction such as change the jacket leaves several decisions unspecified. A reviewable brief can name the garment, the selected region and the details to retain: pose, face, lighting, visible lettering and background objects. The source image remains the reference for judging those details.
After each edit, compare the result with that original rather than only with the preceding generation. Otherwise, small unintended changes can become the new baseline without anyone choosing them. These are editorial review steps, not reported results from this release.
Separate product access from the quality claim
OpenAI says Images 2.5 is rolling out across ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex, with Flare and Sunburst offered through the API. Sunburst is positioned for tighter control at longer generation times. Those product descriptions do not establish how either option performs on a particular portrait.

Preserve provenance along with the picture
The system card documents the model's safety evaluation and limitations. OpenAI also describes C2PA metadata and invisible watermarking in its launch. A forwarded screenshot or recompressed export needs its own metadata check.
Keep the input, instruction and final accepted file together. For a shared portrait, confirm permission to use the person's likeness and label a materially altered image where the context could mislead. A convincing result is not evidence that the depicted event happened.
Describe a reference before changing it
