Claude Removes the Choice Between Chat and Cowork
The report and the slide deck can now begin in the same Claude conversation. Anthropic announced a chat-Cowork merge on September 16, rolling out first to Pro and Max over several weeks. It also introduced Docs and Slides beta and brought Design into conversations.
Citation-ready: Anthropic's chat-Cowork merge is a staged rollout; the announcement does not mean every plan and organization receives identical access on September 16.
Evidence boundary: First-party rollout and beta description. No account migration, connector action, independent quality test or private document share performed.

What happened and why it matters
Removing a mode choice reduces one interruption at the start of a task. It also means the user needs to notice when a conversation moves from discussing a document to editing, sharing or acting through a connector.

The plan and the administrator still matter
Anthropic says Docs, Slides and Design are beta features on paid plans, with Enterprise administrators choosing when to enable them. The chat-Cowork rollout begins on web, desktop and mobile for Pro and Max, with other plans following. By default, Claude asks before actions; users can choose a different check-in setting.
An organization testing the change should record the account's actual access rather than treating an announcement date as its activation date.
Check the artifact outside the conversation
A report can read well in chat while a downloaded presentation has missing text or a shared link is inaccessible to its recipient. The useful completion check is the document or deck as the recipient will open it.
For a recurring report, retain the source period and the finished version. A conversation that remembers last week's format may still need this week's data. Context continuity helps organize the task; it does not establish freshness.
Existing connected work remains consequential
Our Salesforce-in-Claude report follows one connector write through approval to the system of record. A unified conversation does not make that external record less important.
Before declaring a multi-artifact task complete, open the final shared link and the downloaded file. Those are the objects another person will actually use.
Evidence boundary
First-party rollout and beta description. No account migration, connector action, independent quality test or private document share performed.
