Editable is different from attributable
A short topic file lets a user fix an outdated name or delete a preference. Without a source and timestamp, the user may still have to guess which conversation created the item and why Claude interpreted it that way.
A durable record should show the source turn, update time, prior value, actor, affected surfaces, and answers that relied on it.
